Upcoming Horse Racing Events in Australia

In Australia, horse racing events are held all over the country. This article will be discussing races mainly held in Queensland, at different parts of the province. There will be two events in May from now, and two more events in June.

May Horse Racing Events

The first event, which is one of the most anticipated horse races of this year in Brisbane will be held on Saturday 23rd of May, and it will be in The Doomben 10,000; a 1350 metres racetrack that resides at Doomben, Brisbane, Queensland. Horses present at this race are seventeen, and that list includes Temple of Boom, Boban, Big Money, Our Boy Malachi, Generalife and Rock Sturdy. Many of the horses will have just finished with the BTC Cup, and some others will be making their ways to the Stradbroke Handicap. On Saturday 30th of May is the very popular Queensland Oaks event, with a racetrack that is 2,400 metres long, called Eagle Farm. It is located, just like the aforementioned racetrack, at Brisbane, Queensland. This race is part of the Winter Carnival annually held in Brisbane, which makes it all the more special. This horse race involves at least eighty five horses, with over $400k in prize money. Last year’s results are: Tinto in first place, Arabian Gold in second, and Sister Souss in third.

June Horse Racing Events

Saturday 6th of June will be a very busy day, with three horse races in the Eagle Farm racetrack. The first one will be the Stradbroke Handicap, a 1400 metres run. It is actually the most prestigious race of the year in Queensland. Horses number up to one hundred and eleven, and last year’s winners include: River Lad coming in first, Temple Of Boom as second, and Srikandi in third place. The second event is the Queensland Derby at the same field, hosting a 2,400 metres long race. There will be exactly one hundred and twenty horses. Last year’s winners are: Sonntag in first place, Pinstripe Lane in second and Vilanova in third.

The final event on June 6 is the JJ Atkins, formerly known as the TJ Smith Plate, which is a 1,600 metres long run. Seventy eight horses will be competing. Winners of the 2014 race are: Almalad in first, Brazen Beau in second, and Looks Like The Cat in third.
Finally, on June 20th, the Tattersall’s Tiara, a 1,400 metres race, will be held at Eagle Farm. 2014’s winners are: Cosmic Endeavour (1st), Angel Of Mercy (2nd) and Avoid Lightning (3rd).
