2014 Queen of the Turf Stakes

The 2014 Queen of the Turf Stakes is coming up in Sydney on April 19th. This is one of the most anticipated races of the Autumn circuit. The 2013 winner of this 1600m race was Appearance. This year the $1,000,000 Group 1 race has several contenders that could bring home the purse.

Earlier this month at the Doncaster Mile top trainer Chris Waller had 5 horses in the field. 4 of those horses finished in the top 4 spots. Sacred Falls won, Royal Descent was 2nd, Weary was 3rd, and Hawkspur was 4th. Punters, it does not get much better than that. Waller has three horses in this race as well. Two of his horses are favoured to be in contention. One is Catkins and the other is Red Tracer. Red Tracer finished 2nd in this race last year. The 3rd horse is Streama who I believe should be in contention as well.

The ODD’s

Red Tracher: 4.00
Streama: 13.00
Catkins: 3.20
Viadana: 13.00
Bonaria: 26.00
Diamond Drille: 26.00
Recite: 17.00
Soliciet: 6.00
Gypsy Diamond: 6.00

Tips to Win

Catkins – This 4 year old won the Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill and is out of the Chris Waller Stables. Punters, you can’t go wrong if you go with Catkins as your favourite. She is up for the task. The jockey will be H. Bowman.

Red Tracer – This 6 year old finished 2nd in this race a year ago and she is looking for a bounce back. The jockey will be N. Rawiller. This is another mare out of the Chris Waller Stables.

Streama – This is the 3rd Waller horse in this race. You can’t count her out because she has run well and her jockey will be B. Shinn.

Gypsy Diamond – This horse is running at good odds and will be rode my J.B. McDonald. Gypsy Diamond has been in the thick of things and could pull this one out.

Solicit – Solicit is the horse many favour to run ahead of the horses in the Chris Waller Stables in this race. She has placed in 9 of her 11 races and took 1st place in 4 of them. The jockey is C. Schofield. I think Solicit will surprise in this race Punters so beware.

Final Thoughts

Gypsy Diamond ran victorious at the Carbine Club Stakes a week ago and her trainer swears she will be running at top speed at the Queen of the Turf Stakes. Solicit has been looking cheeky and yet Catkins and Red Tracer are still turning heads. It seems you can never rule out the horses from the Chris Waller Stables as of late, but look for Solicit to try her very best.
